My favorite food in the entire world is cookies. I would even go as far to call myself a cookie expert. The best cookies I have ever had are the chocolate chip cookies that my mother makes. Each cookie is soft, fluffy and loaded with chocolate chips. I was home one week end and she showed me how to make them. It is an old recipe that she learned from my Grandmother. I know it is a lot harder to make them from scratch but in the long run, the taste is rewarding enough.
To make these cookies you will first need to go to the store. You will need a small bag of flour, a small box of salt, and a small box of brown sugar. Two sticks of butter are a must as well as a carton of eggs. The last of the ingredients are: a small bottle of vanilla extract, a 12oz. bag of chocolate chips, and a small box of baking soda not powder. I sometimes get them confused and it ruins the cookies. You will also need a large mixing bowl, a small mixing bowl, a quality mixing spoon and a baking sheet. For measuring purposes, you will need a measuring cup, a trusty set of measuring spoons, a spatula and a timer. The last major instrument is the stove to cook the cookies, if it wasn’t obvious enough already.
The first thing to do is pre-heat the oven to 375* Fahrenheit. This is done so when the batter is finished, you can begin cooking. You should then measure out 2 ¼ cups of flour, 1 teaspoon baking soda, and a teaspoon of salt. You next need to combine the three in the small mixing bowl. Set this flour mixture aside. Then measure out 1 cup of butter (about 2 sticks), ¾
cup of granulated sugar, ¾ cup of brown sugar, and 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract. Mix these three together in the large mixing bowl. Beat it until it is creamy. Add 2 large eggs; one at a time making sure that they are mixed threw out. You now gradually add the flour mixture you set aside in the small bowl. This is very difficult to mix it all evenly threw the mixture and takes several minutes before it is done. The mixture is now done and it is now time to add the best part, the chocolate chips. I prefer to add a lot because I like my cookies with lots of chocolate. You can use your discretion and put in as much as you like.
Now it is time to bake your cookies. This is the worst part because you are so close to cookie greatness but so far away. It is a good idea to grease the baking pan so the cookies won’t stick to it. This can be done by applying a light coat of butter to it. Next get the tablespoon and spoon out rounded balls. Place them on the sheet with enough about 3-4cm between each to give them time to spread out. You now should lift the pan place it in the stove for 9-11 minutes. During this time, I like to start the dishes and clean up the mess that I made. During the first batch of cookies I fill up the sink and let the dirt dishes soak. I will usually finish them during the second batch. When the timer goes off, check on the cookies to see if they are golden brown. If they are they still need to be cooked for a few more minutes. When they are done, put on a mitten and take them out. Place them on a surface that it will not burn threw. You should then wait and let them cool for 2-3 minutes.
You should lay down a few rows of paper towels so the cookies have a place to finish cooling off. You then need to take you spatula and remove the cookies from the sheet. This is done by getting under the cookies and wiggling the spatula until it comes loose. Set the cookies on the towels and wait until they are completely cooled. You should repeat the process of
putting the cookies on the sheet and cooking them until all the dough is used. The final step is my favorite one. You now have to pick up one of the cookies, put it in your mouth, and enjoy.
These cookies are probably the only thing that I know how to cook. But the way I see it, once you have had these cookies why would you want to eat anything else.
